New survey highlights urgent need for safe retail practices during this year’s holiday season
In a recent article from the Mastercard Newsroom, the company underscored the importance of practicing cyber safety while online shopping this holiday season.
Is this easier said than done? According to a global survey from Mastercard and the Harris Poll, the answer is yes, with 48 percent of consumers confessing they’d look past security red flags to get a great deal or find the perfect gift.
For many of us, dramatic discounts are a tradition during these months, but as scams become more widespread, remaining vigilant is critical.
“While we’re hunting for bargains, scammers are hunting for victims,” said Alissa “Dr. Jay” Abdullah, deputy chief security officer and senior vice president of emerging corporate security solutions at Mastercard, in a new episode of Mastering Cyber, a Cybercrime Magazine Podcast brought to you by Mastercard. “Keep your guard up, trust your instincts, and protect your wallet.”
Recommended practices include avoiding unfamiliar websites, scanning QR codes with caution, and keeping devices up to date.
